Don’t put beans up your nose – solution to a clients need to do things awkwardly

A session from Doug Hall (Conversions works) The premise is the idea of a client wanting to do something you know with your full being is a bad idea or rather a waste of time. He is using the notion of sticking beans up your nose. Just silly and a pointless idea. We’ve all been there watching a client sticking a bean up their nose and nothing you can say will stop them.

Doug gives an example

One instance of a bean-nose analogy is a client with a green field site, they want measurement but for a variety of flimsy reasons there is no GTM container tag on the site.  This poses some challenges to digital analytics folks with regards to meeting deadlines.

Doug’s Solution

I’ve built a solution to this problem in the form of a Chrome Extension that injects a GTM container on a site for the purposes of development, testing and debugging sites with no GTM container.

This was first presented at a very high level at SuperWeek in Hungary in January this year.  This is the new version and the talk is a full tear down of the way the GTM container is injected. There are some useful javascript techniques on show here as well as demonstrating the solution. I’m offering the extension for free for anyone who wants to use it.

Doug will be bringing jelly beans and what you do with them is up to you!
